RAJDARBAR

Raja Udit Narayan Singh Joodev

In the regulation of time–cycle and the continuous flow of the movement of history Padrauna also has noticed several ups and downs but has remained erect and unmoved like a solid and strong pillar and has continuously influenced the social, economic and political circumstances. It lighted up the fire of oblation and moulded and directed the diversities of the Epic Ages, the Ages of ‘The Ramayan’ and ‘The Mahabharat’. Padrauna has been centre of devotion, meditation, penance and practice for the ‘Nath Siddhas’ and a place of ‘Karm^ (action) for the Sufi Malangs. In the middle Ages it witnessed the dauntless courage, gallantry, and heroism of Madan Singh as well.

During the reign of the Mughal Emperor Aurangjeb there had been a renowned personality named Nathu Rai who belonged to Padrauna dynasty. He was very ambitious and brave. He won many villeges of Batasara ‘Tappa’ and included them in his estate. In 1681 Aurangjeb employed him a revenue administrator and gave thirty three villages worth rupees 5500 as annual revenue. Among the old deposits of Padrauna estate the sword and bonds given by Aurangjeb are remarkable. He had an organized army of archers. It was during his reign that the capital of Padrauna estate was shifted to Padrauna from Khesia Mansachhapar.

RAJDARBAR

Raja Bahaddur Brajnarayan Singh

Situated on the bank of the river Bani the present ‘Rajdarbar^ was given a well-organised and ordered form by Rai Ishwari Paratp. In the ‘Darbar’ ‘Ram Dham’ and ‘Shyam Dham’ became very famous. Bringing pious trees from Mathura Rai Ishwari Pratap made the imagination of Vrundavan successful. The members of the ‘Darbar’ were first devotees of Durga, but approximately before two centuries a miraculous event occurred. After this spectacular event they turned ‘Vaisnav’ and accepted the preachings of Nimbark sect. The ruled territory of the ‘Rajdarbar’ included the combined region with Gorakhpur Ballia, Gazipur, Ajamgarh, Mau and Champaran as well as 460 Villages of Bihar.

The familial strifes of Padrauna Rajdarbar and the political curse made its plight extremely pitiable. The story of the sacrifice of Dubai Rai, a member of Padrauna Darbar in the revolution of 1857 will ever be remembered. He produced amazing sparks of revolution against the British rule in the hearts of the people. For his patriotism he was sentenced to death by hanging from a banyan tree near the temple of ‘Hatthi Mai’ situated near Chhawani, north to Kubersthan road. The hanging is known as ‘Kachhi Fansi’.
